The 8th annual Arches Partnership Games took place on the 26th May 2011 at the English Institute for Sport, Sheffield. Over 1000 primary school children took part across a wide variety of sports and physical activities; athletics, badminton, futsal, judo, table tennis, tag rugby, all-inclusive games and a learning zone. This year’s event was better than ever before and was made possible by contributions from Wisewood School and Community Sports College.
David Blunkett MP and Angela Smith MP joined a VIP tour around the event, meeting the children taking part and talking to volunteers and staff. David was given the honor of starting the last event of the day, the mixed relay that was watched by all the competitors and staff. The Games finished with a closing ceremony involving each school parading with a flag and listening to a closing message from Kristie Richards the Partnership Development Manager of the Arches School Sport Partnership.
The event was organised by 3 Sheffield Hallam University placement students, Daniel Armitage, Holly Maidens and Ross Brown supervised by Arches staff. The Games was supported by over 70 volunteers from the Partnership’s secondary schools, the Arches Partnership Academy of Young Leaders in Sport, Hillsborough College, Sheffield Hallam University and the Sheffield Academy of Young Leaders in Sport.
