The Liberal Democrat/Conservative Government’s commitment to review all current funding promises and to slash billions of pounds from public expenditure continues to raise worries for the future of important projects across Sheffield.
In his letter to Mr Gove, Mr Blunkett writes: “I am deeply concerned about the future funding of Fir Vale School and the rebuild of Parkwood Academy … I would be most grateful to you if you could confirm as quickly as possible that these two schemes, which are already agreed, will be allowed to go ahead”.
He adds: “I am aware of the new coalition Government’s decision to drastically reduce public expenditure in the current and future financial years; but I am also aware, as you will be, of the learning environment at schools which have faced the most enormous social, cultural and economic challenges, vital both to the learning opportunities for the children and to the local economy.”
