Rt Hon David Blunkett, MP for Sheffield Brightside, has welcomed the assurance by three of Kraft’s top officials of ‘no compulsory redundancies’ in Cadbury’s manufacturing workforce.
Marc Firestone, the Executive Vice-President of Kraft; Trevor Bond, its President; and Richard Doyle, the HR Director for Cadbury Britain & Ireland, appeared before the House of Commons’ Business, Innovation & Skills Select Committee on Tuesday.
Speaking after the hearing, Mr Blunkett said: “I am very pleased indeed that a two-year commitment, as a minimum, has been given to the production side of the business – which, of course, incorporates the Hillsborough site.
“I have, as a consequence of the promise given at the Select Committee, talked personally to UK representatives of Kraft; and I have been reassured that ‘no compulsory redundancies’ means a commitment to the manufacturing side of the business. This, of course, means Trebor Bassett.
“I have indicated that an early visit this summer by senior representatives of Kraft would be very welcome. In the meantime, I intend to keep in close touch with the excellent local management, who have done so much with the workforce to restore confidence in the Sheffield facility since the devastation of the floods two-and-a-half years ago.”
